Ritual purification is the meaning of Februum. In ancient Roman culture it was the last month of the year followed by Martius or Mars month, the beginning of the new year. Often women were the ones to honor the dying and purify the clan to make way for the masculine energy of new life. In Slovenia the Vesnas came down to sing to the chosen who could hear their songs during this month. The shape of icicles that melted and reformed into drops were likened to pearls of wisdom.
