Society means a group of people who share geography, culture, and values. We need to associate with those who understand our history, provide companionship and intuit how we think and communicate. Of course, there are many rebels and free thinkers who spend a lot of time conveying a cynicism of the foibles of any particular group.
Storytelling is enhanced by what is the fashion of the moment. As the need to shock has surpassed beauty, the safety pins and tattoos have become the norm for many. It will happen that a need to cover up, as in the Victorian age may be reborn. The human condition of polarization demands we go from cluttered memorabilia to the ice palace and back again.
The instant communication provides the background for ongoing research on where we are headed and what, where, whom to believe. Even the religious community has to up the discussion on how to believe.
It may partially be that the comfort of similarity is downgraded. Does it seem automatic that the minute we actually understand what we being told, we seem to doubt it? Is pain more glorified that pleasure? How many medications can we take?
