El rapto de Proserpina by Ulpiano Checa
Is it possible to define the word “real”? As it is a tangible thing, it is perhaps only actually real in the past tense of historically seeing the outcome. Res, the Latin root means “things.” In our present world this requires rules and laws. Most things are defined, categorized and put in order. The opposite of this phenomena is idealism.

The God Neptune/Poseidon rules the sea, also grapes and potions. All that relieves the mind of logic. Most probably the sexual urge is guided by this. Often a little is required to give birth to consummation. Tension and release. Pluto reigns over what is solid under the sea.

During the Age of Reason, it became in vogue to eliminate any emotional, mystical thoughts. Today, much of media encourages the mindlessness of meditation, be it yoga or reality TV. Pick your God. The hierarchy of organized religion requires a passionate following of an idea. Hence Idealism the opposite of realism. Of course, the hope is a blend of allowing intuition to include both concepts.

Pursuing the thought of consuming things, brings the God of Wealth, Dis/Pluto. The Greek word Plouton means wealth. Dis comes from the Roman “apart.” Riches come from what is underground. These days, the minerals required to build or supply energy bring prosperity.

The other quality of this figure is Sex and fertility. In the overpopulated world of today, our perception of the pleasure of sex needs to be celebrated. Throughout history, sex was seen as a way of creating power thru procreation. The act itself, except in Tantra, was to be kept a secret, an unexamined reality of the mood of those who were in control over the prosperity in life.

The lewd pornographic industry became the go to idea to impose guilt on what is erotic to some. Rather like an operating room, the people who perform in this theater make silly lighthearted jokes to keep the monster “guilt” at bay. Back to the idea of death and sex being dark imposing notions.

We have little to base the exploration of what happens in death on. Perhaps if we enjoy and DIScover (uncover) the variables of sex and erotic patterns, we can lose the fear of the unknown of our future.
