We resonate to music but talking has become less welcome. Probably because listening is no longer in fashion. Or more to the point, “hearing” another directing their opinions on you. There is that glorious moment when you connect with meaning, emotions and information of a person you share chemistry and common history with.
Never having had an interest in politics, I did have a teacher at the Sorbonne in 1968, who inspired me. Maurice Duverger had a charisma that brought 17 year olds to his amphitheater at 8 am. I do not remember his point of view but will always appreciate his passion.
It is interesting that classical liberalism is also known as laissez faire liberalism and denotes limited government. Not the case with government today. The word liberal comes from libre, meaning free. But with bureaucracy overwhelming us, how can we be?
Hopefully the passion that is splitting relationships apart in this present moment will be short lived. My hope would be that all politicians become invisible, their jobs would be transparent only to them. The morality of human behavior is the concern. Can we seriously embrace all the varieties of group behavior?
